Although the plot line of the main character’s family being murdered and now they must avenge their death has been done before, having a woman be the one to avenge her family’s death is a refreshing change to this movie genre in the film “Peppermint” starring Jennifer Garner.

“Peppermint” is the story of Riley North, played by Garner, who witnesses her husband and daughter be shot to death by a group of drug dealers one night. After the man who Riley confirms are the ones who killed her family are not sent to prison and get to walk free, Riley decides to take things into her own hands.

Riley spent years in hiding, training and preparing herself, and on the 5 year anniversary of her family’s death, Riley sets out for revenge on those who killed her loved ones and those who let the killers go free.

“Peppermint” was not loved by critics, to put it lightly. Only receiving a score of 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, this movie was a little cheesy and predictable at times. Critics say it was “unoriginal” and “lacks creativity,” but if you like action movies with a strong female lead then you might like this one.
