Remake of a killer’s past

Remake of a killers past

Bloody, gruesome and filled with brutal killings-Halloween (2007) is film director, Rob Zombie’s remake of the original 1978 Halloween film. This movie stars Daeg Faerch who plays troubled ten year old Michael Myers. Halloween is sure to keep audiences on their toes with constant suspense throughout the entire movie. The film offers a look into Myers’ life before he goes on a violent killing spree. His mother, Deborah (Sherri Moon Zombie), tries to earn a living by stripping. Deborah has a live in boyfriend who is an apparent alcoholic. Myers’ older sister has her priorities with her boyfriend and his baby sister, Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor Compton) is totally innocent and oblivious of the danger.

One interesting aspect about the new Halloween movie is that this film jumps into Michael Myers’ bloody rampage almost immediately. It is Halloween day and just as Deborah is notified of recent discoveries of Michael torturing animals; the psychotic Michael Myers seeks a vengeful kill on a school bully. Michael places a mask over his face and beats the bully to a bloody pulp.

That same night Michael savagely attacks and kills his mother’s boyfriend by wrapping him up with duck tape and slicing his throat as he slept. Next he beats his older sister’s boyfriend with a bat until he takes his last breath. Myers walks upstairs to see his sister lying in the bed. He reaches for a Halloween mask —the mask that would become his signature mask. The pale, white mask with wooly brown hair is slowly placed on his face and he begins stabbing his sister. There is more suspense as Michael walks slowly into his baby sister’s room. Laurie is in her crib as Michael creeps slowly closer to him. The audience holds their breath at this point wondering what will take place next. It turns out he spares the baby’s life and is brought into custody.

The movie continues when a jury finds Michael guilty of murder. He is taken to a facility know as Smith’s Grove. It is there where Michael’s psychologist, Dr. Loomis arrives. The original Dr. Loomis, played by Donald Pleasance, mastered the role of portraying a concerned yet fearful psychologist. Malcolm Mc Dowell picks up where Pleasance left off.
15 years later, during his time at Smith’s Grove, Michael Myers (Tyler Mane) escapes and returns to Haddonfield, IL to seek his sister Laurie Strode and to satisfy his thirst for blood.

Don’t go see this film if you’re big on originality. Halloween 2007 film follows the same concept as the original version. There are familiar scenes such as Michael Myers posing as a ghost and even familiar lines as Scout Taylor Compton asks, “Is that the boogeyman?” This is line that gave Jaime Lee Curtis, the original Laurie Strode notoriety. Nonetheless, if you are a horror film fan, this may be the film for you!
