Young team looks to make a statement

Only three games into the season, and the Olympian football team has already matched their win total from last year.
"Every time a new season starts, [the team] is optimistic," Head Coach Matt Kofler said. "Those games were necessary performances, but [the team] needs to remember that it's just a start, and those game need to be put behind us now."
The Olympians flew out of the gate on September 1st and beat up on Santa Monica College, 48-27. The Olympians came out with 505 yards of total offense and never looked back as they ran away with the game.
On the 8th the Olympians came home for their first home game of the season against East Los Angeles College. This game would turn into a thriller, as it would take two overtimes, before Mesa finally came away with the win, 31-30. In that game, freshman running back Zay Shepard rushed for 163 yards on 16 carries.
Antelope Valley College came to town on the 15th and was held relatively quiet throughout the game as the defense forced three turnovers inside the red-zone; two interceptions and a turnover on downs. Unfortunately Antelope Valley came away with the win 14-13.
"Each week is a big game," Kofler said. "The talent is there we just need to focus and keep the intensity week in and week out."
The Olympians now look towards next week as they head up north to face Chaffey College on October 6th at 5:00.
The Olympians will return home on October 20th at 1:00, as they will play host to Southwestern College.
