Mesa college is hosting a number of events to kick off this years annual Green Week from April 25-29.
The week will start off when Cal-Pirg, the Energy Serving Club on campus, and AS Student Body, unite to set up recycling bins out in the quad area from April 25-28 from 10am-2pm. Member and Representative of AS Student Body, Cherrie Deo Gracias, urges students to think of the environment and to recycle during their vacation time.
“Save all recyclables from Spring Break for a good cause.” Not only does the AS student body want to motivate the students to get into a good habit of recycling on a daily basis, but their purpose is also to educate the students on a subject that could help save the environment. Cherri states, “We want to educate Mesa students on different recycling options, renewable energy, environmental sustainability and Wildlife Preservation in celebration of Earth Day.”
Earth Day begins on April 22 in the U.S and in 175 Countries. It is a day to bring up issues concerning wildlife, and methods people can take to lower gas omissions into the atmosphere.
In order to grab student’s attention the AS Student Body plans to hold a carnival on April 27 and April 28 from 10am-2pm, based on energy efficiency and renewable energy. There will be booths in front of the quad and games to play like the recyclable basket toss, where students can toss recyclables into a basket and receive prizes.
Also, the students will receive various prizes for doing anything green. If they choose to clean out their binders they will receive a scantron. If they decide to bring 3 recyclables ranging from paper, to bottles or boxes, they will receive a water bottle. If students bring 5 recyclables, they’ll receive a blue mug made from recycled plastic.
All the money and proceeds will go to “Wild Coast Environment Sustainability,” whose goal is mainly to preserve wild life.
