Bruce Jenner’s Transgender Journey Becomes Difficult

In today’s society in terms of one’s sexuality, a lot is now permitted or sociably acceptable to some extent. Society has questioned over the years people who have decided to come out of the closet, or even transitioning to being someone else, literally. However for a lot of people, the pursuit of becoming someone who is completely different from their true self is frowned upon. Being gay is still a big debate today, but people are now starting to become more accepting. On the other hand, there are people who feel unlike their true selves and are lost between desire and oppression. These feelings occur with gay people too but more so with transgender people who feel stuck in their own body. That’s the case with Bruce Jenner, the former Olympic athlete, turned celebrity by appearing in the reality show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

Jenner has been seen around Los Angeles with feminine attire including nail polish on his fingernails. He has also shaved his Adams apple and has been seen cross-dressing. According to In Touch, cross-dressing is not a new thing for Jenner. He appeared in a Bob Hope’s comedy special in 1981 impersonating a female act from the ‘70s.

As more speculation came after Jenner’s separation from his wife Kris Jenner, his questionable behavior fueled rumors that he wanted to become a woman. Jenner has now come out of hiding and expressed his true desires on becoming a woman.

Jenner has not been as eager to let the world know, as it is such a sensitive topic but he has been very open to his family. According to “The Insider,” The [kids’] concern seems to be Bruce’s happiness and he acts very pleased with his new life.”

Jenner has been very cautious with his decision. With his family, his transition has been gradual, so as to not freak them out with such an extreme change all so swiftly. However, the media rarely treats anyone with respect and Jenner is no exception. The media tends to ridicule and make fun of the fact that he has never felt comfortable with himself because of a majorly sensitive and difficult topic, yet people are ignorant and refuse to understand where he is coming from or how he has been feeling. Society needs to understand the transgender community and not judge them nor persecute them for wanting to be their true selves and be happy.
