According to a special report found on www.bjs.gov, the Bureau of Justice Statistics published information stating that from 1995 to 2013, females ages 18 to 24 had higher rates of rape and sexual assault than females in other age groups. When it comes to personal safety, women should be educated on basic self-defense techniques. While boxing and martial arts classes are offered, individuals, particularly women, may be interested in classes that offer specific insight to rape prevention and self-defense techniques.

Female students should be aware that there are self-defense classes offered to them. By looking into services offered by the San Diego Community College Police Department, female students will be able to educate themselves on personal safety. Female students should utilize services offered because individuals should strive toward bettering themselves. By broadening one’s education on personal safety, individuals can share their knowledge and possibly encourage others to look into services offered by colleges.

Classes that teach self-defense techniques don’t just focus on the physical aspect of possible attack scenarios. While an individual being able to defend themselves physically is important, it is also important to learn preventative measures. Women should be aware that they are in control of their safety, which means they can reduce the risk of being victimized. By being reminded that individuals control where they put themselves, one can better analyze their surroundings and ultimately feel secure.

In regards to the physical aspect of self-defense classes, individuals that have had experience with combat techniques may find the slower paced repetition of strikes and kicks to be dragged out and trivial. The slower paced teaching of self-defense techniques allows for individuals to build muscle memory and become comfortable with the techniques. Besides becoming comfortable and confident with combat techniques, the slower paced teaching is very beneficial with performing the techniques correctly and avoiding injuries.

Self-defense classes may not be for everyone, due to the fact that they can be emotionally and physically challenging. Even though attendees of self-defense classes may be challenged, it is important to bypass any obstacles in order to receive crucial information that pertains to personal safety. It is better to be informed on crime statistics and preventative measures than possibly ending up in a potentially dangerous situation.

Women should look into self-defense classes and become educated on important aspects of personal safety. The purpose of self-defense classes are to empower women and boost the confidence of attendees. Women need to know that they control their own safety. With control comes security and ultimately the broadening of knowledge allows women to not be easily victimized by crime.

Having the knowledge of self-defense is life-changing, one particular set of skills that would last a lifetime.
