Student-Mommy Life

Student-Mommy+Life

To all the student-mommy’s out there: often times we feel overwhelmed, helpless, and sometimes unsure of the road we are walking down. Sometimes we just want a break, but feel guilty for wanting “Me-Time”. I am here to tell you, don’t! Do not feel bad or guilty for wanting time to yourself. We need that time to relax and reflect. No matter what stage of Mommyhood one may be in right now, it is okay to do something for yourself sometimes. Leave the kid(s) with daddy, a trusted relative, or friend and just relax. Go get a massage, treat yourself to a new bra, spend a day at the spa, go to dinner without having to ask for a kids menu, go see a rated R movie alone or just go home and take a much-needed nap! Whatever it may be that helps you unwind, do that.
If you are anything like me, you will be texting whoever it is that has your child(ren) to check on them. Instead of doing that, ask them if they’d be okay with sending you a picture of your child(ren) every hour or every other hour to keep you updated on what and how they are doing. If you have an iPhone, you can put their phone number under your “Favorites” and put your phone on ‘Night Mode’. If they happen to call, you will receive it and be able to hear it or feel it vibrate, even while on Night Mode. We as moms have the toughest job on the planet. We are always making sure that our kids are fed, showered, done with homework, and happy. We forget about our own happiness and things that we need to do for our own sanity, to keep us going.
I share 50/50 custody with my son’s father, but my job is never ever done. Even on the days I do not have him, I am at his school volunteering, I go up there checking on him to make sure he is on task, I make time to support him at his practices, I attend all of his games and we talk on FaceTime before he goes to bed. So much of me has been given to my son and sometimes I forget that I once was my own person and that I still have needs and wants. School has been stressful, amongst other things, that my face started breaking out. So I decided to take advantage of my day alone to go get a facial at Sweetface Aesthetics here in San Diego. Maybe after that, I will go do a little retail therapy. I am sure you could use a little retail therapy too! So get your studying done, get a sitter and treat yourself!
