The San Diego Mesa College women’s soccer team is off to a strong start this year. They are currently 5-1 and their win over nationally ranked Fresno College has been the highlight of their season so far.

They have 12 returning sophomores from last season, which provides experience and comradery. The whole team, including their coach, has high expectations for this season.

“We took second in the conference last year, we got in the state playoffs for the twelfth year out of the last 13 years…I’m expecting these guys to have a good year,” said Head Coach Todd Curran.

The Olympians are led by captains Chanel Aguiar and Joanna Ortega. Unfortunately, Ortega suffered from what looks to be a torn ACL early in the season.  Mesa beat East Los Angeles College 2-1 on  Sept. 16.
