Mesa College opened the Art Gallery for students and the public to view artwork from Mesa art professors. The exhibition will range from different forms of artwork such as social media, digital, painting, sculptures, ceramics, printmaking, installation photography and hands on art activities.

Gallery Director Alessandra Moctezuma says that the exhibit “ is a way for students and the college to get to see the art that is produce by our faculty.”

The exhibit will be open from September 2-25. The gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday at 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. A parking permit is required. There are $1 parking tickets that can be purchased at a parking meter near the Mesa parking lots. The exhibit is located in building D 101 near the library. Admission is free to students and to the public.

There are 27 artists with an estimated total of 25-30 pieces of art. A full walk around the gallery will take approximately about half an hour.

Moctezuma says, “It takes a staff and a place and it something that takes time to set it up.”

The gallery consists of multiple pieces of artwork that Mesa professors have created for the students and for anyone who is interested. Most of the artist will be there to answers any questions about their artwork.

“We usually ask two of our studio art faculties to talk about their artwork because it is a nice way for students… rather than just seeing the artwork they can actually get a sense of the making of the work or the ideas behind the work,” Moctezuma said.

Reception night at the Faculty Art Exhibit included a presentation of two of the artists, Brian Dick and Lisa Hutton. Brian Dick and Lisa Hutton discussed and lectured from 7-8 p.m. about their Nationwide Museum Mascot project.

“The Mascot project is an idea where Brian Dick created mascots for museums, to generate interest,” Moctezuma said.

Dick and Hutton have traveled to different museums using mascots to promote interest towards museums and bring the public to enjoy the artwork of the artist. The lecture included a Q and A and meet up with the artist themselves.
