Jazz 88 Ocean Beach Music & Art Festival comes to the sand

Sept. 10th, Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach will be transformed for the 6th annual Jazz 88 Ocean Beach Music & Art Festival.  Hosted by KSDS Jazz 88.3 FM, the festival is a celebration of a sound that has become increasingly scarce over the years.

The event will stretch from where Newport Ave. touches the sand to Cable St. and feature three outdoor stages with another six stages housed indoors at Winston’s, The Harp, Hodad’s, Electric Ladyland, and Nick’s at the Pier.  Festival attendees ages 21 and older are also encouraged to drink and jive at the festival’s craft beer and wine garden which will be set up at the beach end of Newport Ave. directly next to the main stage.

Performances will run the gambit from Blues to Funk and  promise fans of all styles an experience they won’t soon forget with a slew of talent featuring names like The Styletones, Mundell Lowe, and Dr. John.  Attendees going for a particular performer beware that performances hosted in bars are only open to those of legal drinking age.

There we be no special parking for the event so plan on showing up early if walking as much as ten blocks is an issue.  Alternatively, bus route 35 has numerous stops throughout Ocean Beach and starts at the Old Town Transit Center which has it’s own parking lots.

Basic event tickets will cost $30 with more advanced packages available for more that include goodies like priority seating at certain stages and valet parking.
