Speech and debate teams successful at invitational tournament

The Mesa College forensic speech and debate teams took second place in overall debate sweepstakes and fourth place in overall combined debate and speeches at the 16th annual Griffin/Mann Invitational Speech Tournament.

The Junior Parliamentary teams cleaned house at the tournament on Nov 15 and 16. David Berver and Matt Milholland captured a gold while Ray Silveyra and mariana Romero took home the bronze award.

Mesa took the Novic Parliamentary Debate competition by storm. Jenna Phippen and John Goette took gold. Allie Shorkey and Carlos Garbiras won silver. And Saman Nazemi and Jonathan Tupas locked in a bronze.

Allie Shorkey dominated the Novice Parliamentary Debate category with a first place performance. Jenna Phippen, John Goette and Carlos Garbiras backed up Shorkey with a 17th, 19th and 20th place victiory.

Ray Silverya, 9th place, and David Berver, 10th place, made a strong presence in Junior Parliamentar Debate.

Havier Guzman was a finalist in Speech to Entertain and Program Oral Interoperation. Moro Laura and Davis Berver were also finalists in Impromptu Public Speaking and Extemporaneous Public Speaking respectively.
