Adam’s Avenue, or San Diego’s culinary capital as one might like to call it, has some of the city’s most delectable food spots without a doubt.
The variety is absolutely outstanding, with restaurants ranging from Japanese to Peruvian, to Turkish kebab and even Portuguese coffee.
Bica, coming from the Portuguese word for coffee, is one of San Diego’s most loved spots, with an award winning tuna sandwich to a broad coffee menu that includes caffeine free beverages, Bica has built a large community of people who enjoy quality dishes, as well as supporting its small, yet lovingly artsy premises.
This spot includes only a few dishes separated into three categories: sandwiches, tartines, and plates.
A community fan favorite is their iconic tuna sandwich, which includes a light and airy, yet deeply flavorful tuna salad inside two pieces of sourdough, alongside some arugula and seasonal veggies added for additional flavor.
A more personal preference has to be their “fish plate”, which includes a plethora of their available cured fish, accompanied with cream cheese, pickled veggies, olive oil, and a side of sourdough.

Their menu updates on the availability of their products due to seasonal changes. This ensures the quality of all their dishes, depending only on what their local suppliers provide them with. Not all dishes are made exactly the same for this reason, which is something uniquely and pleasantly delightful.
They recently added their bluefin tuna crudo to the menu. This dish consists of slices of fresh, raw tuna on a bed of their homemade spicy mayo and olive oil, garnished with shallots and chives and a wedge of lemon on the side. Every detail about this dish makes it incredibly special, garnishes and all. A very “Bica” thing to do on their part.

Coffee is also a ten out of ten. Their cortado was piping hot with a very nice frothy top and a beautifully poured heart shape.
They use “Necessity Coffee” – a specialty coffee roaster company from San Diego – and “Paru” tea for their highly popular matcha drink, as well as their other tea drinks, ensuring again the quality of their every cup.

Bica is not only an exquisite buccal sensory experience, but a chance to support the San Diegan community.
Their providers are local fishermen, local coffee roasters (Necessity Coffee), local tea manufacturers (Paru), local bakers (Companion Bread), and they even host pop ups weekly, which bring attention to new and upcoming local small businesses.
They also sell gourmet imported foods, such as tinned fish, european cheese, flavorfully infused oils, and other rotating goods. Locally handcrafted pottery and artisanal kitchen utensils are also available for sale.

There’s never a miss when it comes to Bica. Every dish is meticulously and delicately made, and every cup has its pour perfectly calculated and curated.
There’s a dish for everyone, and there’s an open door for whoever wishes to join in their San Diegan community.
