A new app has risen for the safety of students. If you are in the SDCCD district you are eligible to download it on iPhone or Android right now. The SDCCD Safe app allows students in San Diego community colleges to report incidents, walk with a buddy, and connect authorities via phone or text.
With the new design of an app meant to protect. Crimes on campus are expected to get increasingly lower. The unique features provide a quick connection to campus police and a safer way to get around campus. Being able to chat with authorities without having to pick up your phone and place it next to your ear, gives a discrete way of texting while not setting off any alarms.
The app’s “Friend Walk” feature lets individuals get across campus in a safer way. With a press of a button anyone can request for another SDCCD student to walk them along campus.
Some students around campus had unique perspectives on the matter. Journalism major and Mesa student Parris Dowdell , “I’ve witnessed misdeeds on campus, this is better for our college,” when speaking about the SDCCD app. Another Mesa student, Exercise Science major Carlos Avila, said “This would be very useful to keep our community safe”.
SDCCD Safe is still in early access. Although just released, it already has many users ready to download and is widely considered a helpful app.
