Finding Whose Line It Really Is

It was a sad thing to think about. At first, all it seemed like was a great childhood memory to some, a TV show to others, and merely a 5 word question to a few. “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” was a hysterical improv television show that might sound familiar to Mesa students. This show first premiered on American television in 1998 and was not cancelled until 2007. This was plenty of time for the show to catch the eyes of the youthful Mesa students and bring tears of joy from them.

If you have never heard of the show before, it is an improvisational comedy show. An improvisational comedy show, or improv, consists of several games that are made up of suggestions from the audience, then the four improv actors try their best to create the  scenarios off the top of their heads. The improv players receive points for playing, but the “points” are just a made up joke to decide a winner that doesn’t actually win anything.

2007 seemed unfortunate. Nine great years consisted of 219 comical episodes that suddenly came to end. As upsetting as it was, six years later the CW network was ready to reveal a surprise that would excite many previous viewers of the once comical show years ago.

On July 16,the CW revitalized the TV show. They even brought back the 3 main improv geniuses; Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, and Ryan Stiles. Former popular host Drew Carey could not return due to his engagements as host on popular television game show “The Price is Right.” They replaced Carey with a younger, energetic woman named Aisha Tyler.

Tyler puts in a good effort but cannot compare to what was once the great hosting of Drew Carey. This may be the only downfall, The new version of the show consists of brand new 4th rotating improv guests as well as a celebrity guest(s) that joins the show periodically. Brady, Mochrie, and Stiles are still as funny as ever along with comedy that is more up to date, unlike the previous series which had comedy some of us were too young to understand at one point or another.

It seems almost clear to me that the show has been revived and is as funny as it once was. “Whose Line is it Anyway?” is a highly recommended comedy show that you can now find on the CW on Tuesday nights at 8 and 8:30 p.m. So grab a few friends and a remote because it’s definitely something worth watching.
