Arthur Wilson strives to be great

Arthur Wilson strives to be great

Sophomore cornerback, Arthur Wilson is no stranger to working to reach his every endeavor. He pushed through a lot of obstacles to get where he is at now, both as a man and as an athlete. Wilson displays his athletic abilities on the field. Football started off as just something to do and keep him out of trouble and ended up becoming the centerpiece of his long-term goals.

“ I want to go to a Division I school and play football, go to a league after that and obtain a degree,” said Wilson.

Even though Wilson has his future planned, he, like many others has felt like his back was against the wall at some point in time.

“After my mom passed, I moved back from school in Fresno. It was a do or die situation. No financial aid, no roof over my head.”

At a low point in his life, he was fortunate enough to have his high school coach, Tim Byler, come at his time of need.

“He has always been a mentor, but after my mom passed, he became more like a dad and the only person helping me out and pushing me to stay in football in school by any means.”

Wilson also credits his team for being motivators in his life.

“The football team is my family now, so I couldn’t let them down.”

He is proud of the hard work the team is putting into the game.

“Our offense has picked up tremendously,” he said. “Our defense is top 10 in the state and ready to keep up the accomplishments and set the goals even higher. The culture is almost like a Division I program. Everyone is ready, hungry, and competing.”

While Wilson’s athletic and academic “to do” list is set, he has a purpose for everything that he is thriving for and that is make his mother proud.

“ She always told me to follow dreams and I know she didn’t raise me to be mediocre,” said Wilson. “ I realized God gives his battles to his strongest soldiers to keep pushing.”
