The San Diego Mesa College Olympians opened their home campaign with a hard-fought 66–57 victory over the Los Angeles Valley College Monarchs on Nov. 7.
Throughout, both teams fought through ups and downs before the defense of the Olympians clamped down in the final minutes to seal the victory.
The matchup marked one of the Olympians first major early-season tests as LA Valley arrived looking to rebound from a tough opening stretch.
Olympians controlled the pace early, forcing turnovers and converting in transition, while the Monarchs relied on perimeter shooting to stay within reach.
A pivotal moment came with eight minutes remaining in the second half, when Mesa went on an 8-0 run ignited by quick ball movement and strong rebounding at both ends.
The highlight reel showed multiple fastbreak finishes and a clutch 3 pointer that helped the Olympians pull away for good.
The loss certainly didn’t dampen the optimism of the head coach of the Monarchs.
“We can do better than this. I see a bright future in my team.” Said the head coach of the Monarchs.
He sounded confident that the setback may fuel improvement heading into conference play.
The result extends a perfect start to the 2025–26 season for the Olympians, who go into a daunting run-in full of confidence.
