City rivals San Diego Mesa College and San Diego Miramar College faced off at Merrill Douglas Stadium, as Olympians striker Devin McCovy scored two goals to help the Olympians comeback for a 3-3 draw.
The game kicked off with the Olympians dominating both defensively and offensively for the first ten minutes.
In the 6′ minute, Olympian’s forward, Maxwell Allen, passed the ball to McCovy, he dribbled past three defenders and scored to give the Olympians the lead.
In the 15′ minute, Jet’s midfielder, Andrew Vannieuwenhoven, carried the ball from the middle of the field all the way down to score a fabulous solo goal.
During the 21′ minute, a shot attempt from Jet’s forward, Angelo Mitchell, bounced off the cross bar, where midfielder Paul Gilmore found the ball to score, giving the Jets a 1-2 lead.
In the 31′ minute, Olympian’s midfielder, Edgar Rodriguez, shot the ball towards the goal where defender Pablo Valencia met the ball to score, tying the game 2-2.
Minutes before halftime, Olympian’s goalkeeper, John Bear, made a crucial double save to keep the game tied.
Twelve minutes after halftime, Jet’s forward, Omar Akbar, blasts the ball to give the Jets the lead again in the game.
In the 72′ minute, Olympian’s forward, Jay Juarez, passed the ball to McCovy, who chipped the Jets’ goalkeeper to score the equalizer and his second goal of the game.
Besides the two goals, the second half was mostly a defensive game. In the 77′ minute, Olympian’s Bear made a game saving block that rescued them from a defeat.
The Olympians showed teamwork throughout the game offensively. All of their goals were created by teamwork, while the Jets goals were created by individual brilliance.
Both goalkeepers made saves all game long to keep their team in the game. The Olympian’s goalkeeper made four saves, while the Jets’ goalkeeper made eight saves throughout the game.
