Are Rice Buns the Future of Burgers?

If you’re a fan of Thai food, then you’ll love this delightful little restaurant that just opened up right down the street from our very own Mesa College.

Owners Pari, 27, and Pan, 34, started Thai Burger Company as a tent in a farmer’s market selling their delicious Thai burgers and eventually moving to the food truck business. However, now they have decided to open a restaurant as well.

Their restaurant opened on March 31, 2017. These are not your typical burgers; instead of being sandwiched between two buns, they use sticky rice instead. Being college students, we are always in a hurry and always on a budget and this place is just right to get a quick bite to eat for a low price.

Everything is also packaged to go, so if you’re in a hurry, then don’t worry, you’ll be on your way with your meal in no time. You are able to get a burger, appetizer, and a soda or a water bottle for only $10! And it is very worth it; the food here is delicious. The burger is juicy and the sticky rice “bun” is exactly what the patty should be paired with. They also serve boba! The Thai tea is also phenomenal.

Brittany Hunniecutt, a long time customer, showed up to be the first sale of the new establishment. When asked if this was good food Hunniecutt said “Oh yes, definitely. My favorite is the Classic BBQ Pork Burger.” Hunniecutt went with her two children who also seemed very excited to be getting some good food. Sam Petrini was the second person to arrive. He had never eaten at any of the food truck or tent locations before but after sharing an Uber ride with someone who was ranting and raving about it he said “You can’t talk so highly of it and not have me try it.” After only 15 minutes they were already getting customers, so you know they must be popular amongst their fans.

After taking a moment to answer some questions, Pari said that his favorite thing about serving food is the relationship with his guests. He loves being able to provide good food and a nice environment to make sure his guests are satisfied. He also loves getting feedback from so that he may improve on anything that might have fallen short. Pari also said he plans to eventually expand and open up more locations. He hopes that Thai Burger Company will be the next “local hip place where people can hang out or even do homework.”

If you’re a student then this is the place to get your food. It’s a low-cost, high quality restaurant. And if you’re not a student then this is still the place to go! If you’re in a hurry to pick-up from school or you have work in 30 minutes and you haven’t eaten then head on over to Thai Burger Place. No matter the situation this place will not disappoint.

This is my first semester working for the Mesa Press. This is also my last semester at Mesa. My major is Journalism and I hope to go on to work with a news company. I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music, watching TV, and playing video games. My favorite video game series is The Legend of Zelda and my favorite author is H.P. Lovecraft. I also really like going out to eat at new restaurants and making many lame jokes.
