“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild” Gets Stellar Reviews

The “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is the newest installment of the “Legend of Zelda”, “LoZ”, series.

It released on March 3 and has received among the best reviews of any game in history. During the first few days of its review period it has not received anything less than a 9/10 and even received a score of 99 on Metacritic. The only other game to ever receive a score of 99 was “LoZ: Ocarina of Time”, a game that has been disputed as the best game of all time.

But what made this game stand out above all others? “LoZ” has been regarded as one of the best video game series among many gamers. Their intense fighting sequences along with intricate puzzles inside immense dungeons and storylines that keep you wanting more have all been staples of the series. “Breath of the Wild”, “BotW”, strayed from this “formula” in a way no one expected. “BotW” is an open world free-for-all.

You do not have to follow the storyline and go linearly along with what the game tells you. Right from the beginning of the game the entire map is available to you. If you want to collect every single side item and learn how to cook before going to fight the final boss then you can do that, conversely if you wanted to go straight to the final boss, you can do that as well.

However, it does not end there. You can do almost anything in this game if you have the creativity to do so. There’s even an entire cooking system. If you want to make a flying raft, you can do that as well. The possibilities of this game are endless. Even the interactions you have with the NPCs, non player characters, are influenced by the clothes you are wearing. You can choose to wear armor, clothes fit for snow, or even no clothes at all among many other items available.

All these different item combinations affect not only the environment you are in but how NPCs interact with you. There is even an instance on a bridge where if you stand on the edge of the bridge as if you were about to jump off the NPC that is nearby will shout out “Wait a minute! PLease think about what you’re doing!” He even continues talking to you even after you step down, it is rare that a small NPC would bring gameplay to a halt but the creators of this game put every little detail into it.

“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is an immense game with so much to do. Along with beautiful visuals and attention to detail you will never be bored with what you can accomplish. It’s no wonder this was one of the two top rated videogames of all time.

This is my first semester working for the Mesa Press. This is also my last semester at Mesa. My major is Journalism and I hope to go on to work with a news company. I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music, watching TV, and playing video games. My favorite video game series is The Legend of Zelda and my favorite author is H.P. Lovecraft. I also really like going out to eat at new restaurants and making many lame jokes.
