Mesa Water Polo

Women’s Water Polo at San Diego Mesa College

By:Esther Aviksis

Let’s make a splash Mesa College, and get ready for this years outstanding Womens Water Polo team! What’s a college without sports teams and good ones? Mesa has great tams with great coaches and athletes. These athletes have a 34% transfer rate to 4 year universities. Many will probably go on and play sports there as well. With coach Jim Fegan about to lead the girls on the Water Polo team to victory yet again, we can only wait and count on a good year to come! This past weekend alone the girls beat Grossmont 8-6 with another game this Wednesday at Palomar College. The girls are now going to the So-Cal championships! We are hoping for a good year this year for the team. I know that they will continue to strive in the game, and with hard core practice they will get far, they are already at the championships. .

I have not yet had a chance to inter coach Fegan himself, but I know that once I do, he will only say good things about the players and the team as a whole! The girls have been conference champions for nine years from 1988-2006! With the girls training regularly and practices and games happening frequently it must be hard to stay on top of it all, with schoolwork and games. I have total confidence that these girls will continue to go far this year! There is a total of 18 girls on the team this year with different positions and different backgrounds, but the one thing they all have in common is their mindset. They all want to win. For most I is their first year on the Mesa team, but a few are returning players.
