At this semester’s Southern California Journalism Association of Community Colleges Conference, the Mesa Press took home four awards. Three honorable mentions were awarded in the Mail-in category to BJ Grieve (Column Writing), Brittany Wiczek (Opinion Writing) and Sarah Swasey (News Writing). Sarah Swasey also took home first place in the On-the-Spot News Writing Competition. This was the first time the Mesa Press ever placed in an on-the-spot competition at JACC.

The conference took place at CSU Fullerton on Oct. 23-24. Students and faculty came to represent their southern California community colleges, with 27 schools in attendance and about 415 total participants. Three hundred ninety-two awards were distributed throughout the conference.
