Is riding the bus really worth it?

So you ride the bus to school I ask? “Yea 4 days a week” he says. That is the reality for a large portion of the student population. Students seem to feel that college is so important that they will go through almost anything to get to school. Don’t believe me? Well just ask Mesa College student Cody Bobb about riding the bus.

“I’ve seen knife fights over dice games,” he says, “you want to see crazy sh** ride the bus.”

Since I have not ridden the bus since the eighth grade I can only estimate the terror students face when riding the bus. I was challenged by my colleagues at the Mesa Press to ride the bus; I have decided that would give me a conflict of interest.

So I’m afraid the only way I can be fair is to write about the bus with little or no actual knowledge.

According to the MTS, from my house in Pacific Beach it would take me 55 minutes one-way. That still leaves me over half a mile from campus, and that walk is uphill.

This conquest seems absolutely terrible to me seeing as how I wouldn’t ride the bus to Disneyland let alone school.

From missed busses to strange bus mates, all of this is part of every bus rider’s day. If I rode the bus I would demand a greater diploma then those who drive. It seems only right since I will put in a greater effort.

It seems as if college has become so important that people will do almost anything to get there. Bus riders justify the troubles they have to endure when riding the bus in different ways.

To some, not having to worry about auto maintenance, parking and gas is worth it. Not to mention that riding the bus is better for the environment. In my opinion, gas is cheap, parking is not that bad and I recycle so save the global warming talk.

It should be mentioned that as of yet there is no statue to honor these patriots who give hours of their time in order to support the MTS. So tell me how you feel bus riders, is the juice really worth the squeeze?
