There is construction left and right and it is getting in the way of efficiently traveling through campus. Coming from a college where active construction was going on I am tired of it. It is not that the other school did a much better deal of keeping its construction out of the way, it is just I am tired of seeing the same thing over and over.
There are just too many variables in active construction that hinder my enjoyment of the campus scenery. Between the noise, smell, and complex navigation it’s just not fun. Compared to my other campus Mesa College looks like a forest, it is sad that it is plagued by the same construction woes.
There are many things I do not like but some things get on my nerves more than others, smoke is a big one for me. If there is one thing I loathe above all else it is exhaust being blown in my face.
This is a beautiful campus and all of the foliage makes it even more beautiful. When I first walked through the campus I was like, “This is pretty nice.” However, the moment of blissful enjoyment was interrupted when I caught a whiff of the construction fumes.
As mentioned earlier I came to Mesa College from a campus that was also undergoing construction because of this I have developed coping mechanisms. One such technique I use is to just walk away from a construction site. Sounds simple right? Go ahead and try it, between finding a time efficient route and all of the foot traffic it’s near impossible.
Navigation is also tricky. Maps are placed around campus but no where near frequently enough even though they can be your best friend in a situations like this. Alternatively when navigating campus other options include leaving a person behind and using math class geometry to traverse the terrain efficiently. If properly executed, getting through the campus should be quite easy.
The construction also indirectly affects other things such as parking. It is not fun to need to dedicate as much as 30 minutes to find parking. That the construction is taking away 500 construction spaces is equally ridiculous. Construction at my previous college was tolerable mainly because the area being worked on was not in the middle of the campus.
The tragic part is that the campus is actually really nice. It’s like a work of art that, upon closer inspection, is peeling. It can also be compared to those fast food commercials where you are enticed by the appealing imagery only to find out post consumption that you have been horribly mislead.
But the true point behind the construction is getting new facilities for our campus and I can agree with this. Let’s face it, sacrifices need to be made for these new facilities and in the end they do seem to justify the means.
