War on Christmas?

There are things we come to expect when the winter season comes around: hot chocolate, Christmas carols, and Fox News’ claim there is a war being waged on Christmas by liberals.

This year, Fox News found their War on Christmas in California. A small Atheist group in Santa Monica protested the placement of nativity scenes in a public park, sending the city council into debates over freedom of speech and religion. In the end, the nativity scenes were moved to a nearby private property.

The notion that a War on Christmas exists is ridiculous. Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year. The holiday that technically only lasts for one day is engulfing the entire winter season. Halloween decorations are coming down and Christmas decorations are going up on the same day. Commercials, billboards, and online ads are there to remind us that Christmas is coming soon, even before Thanksgiving.

There is no War on Christmas. A group of Atheists felt it was unfair that Christian values were being promoted in a public space. America is a diverse nation, full of all different religions. People who do not celebrate the holiday already have to put up with the enormity that is Christmas in stores and on TV. It seems reasonable enough to want to keep it out of public spaces.
