San Diego Mesa College men’s cross country team finished within one second of second place in the California Community College Athletic Association Championships on Nov. 19 at the Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif.
The Olympians finished with two of its competitors in the top ten. The Olympians top competitor, Dylan Marx, finished the course with a time of 20 minutes and 14 seconds. With the course being four miles Marx had averaged five minutes and three seconds a mile and came in fourth place.
Close behind Marx was Aaron Thomas who finished one second behind him and came in fifth place.
The other half of the cross-country team, the lady Olympians, finished in twenty-first place. The lady Olympians top runner Hayley Brown had finished the course with a time of 20 minutes and nine seconds.
On Nov. 4 at the SoCal Championships at San Bernardino Valley, the Olympians finished in third place and their top two competitors were Marx and Thomas again.
In the women’s 5k run the lady Olympians finished in seventeenth place with their top runner being Brown again with a finishing time of nineteen minutes and seventeen seconds.
Prior to the SoCal Championships, the men’s team had finished in first place at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 27 at Balboa Park in San Diego, the men captured first place with more than a 50 point cushion. The Olympians had finished with six competitors in the top ten. Joining Marx, who finished first, and Thomas, second, was Eric Brown, Carlos Bojorquez, Eddoe Ramos, and Arturo Canela.
At the same contest the women’s team nabbed third place with Brown finishing third as well and Erica Edwards finishing in the tenth spot.
