Great burgers and spirits at Red Robin

Tasty burgers, great drinks, and bottomless fries! Red Robin in La Jolla serves the best classic gourmet burgers in town.

Starting off as a tavern near the University of Washington in the 1940s, Red Robin used to be called ” Sams Tavern”, and is now transformed into a gourmet burger joint serving burgers, drinks, fries, salads and more.

Red Robin might not be the quiet sit and eat place you would go to for a meeting, but they do have pretty delicious burgers and tasty drinks.

When walking in, you notice the kids’ mini arcade to the left and all the frames they have hung up on the walls. The frames and posters give a lively spirit to the place. With pictures of the most random things you can think of, they’ll make you chuckle while looking around waiting for your food.

Red Robin is a family friendly restaurant. Along with the portraits, they have TVs for your entertainment. You may either sit at the bar or at a table.

Red Robin serves everything from gourmet burgers to salads and sandwiches, wraps and soup.

Starting off with their “shareable starters” their Towering Onion Rings is part of their “RR”(Red Robin signature selection) with 13 seasoned and crispy fried onion rings stacked and served with tangy campfire sauce and ranch dressing for the dipping. Their RR’S Buzzard Wings are meaty chicken basted with a fiery cayenne pepper sauce (if you dare).

Red Robin starters begin at $4.49, are delicious and go great with any entrée.

Now for their mouth-watering burgers, their famous Red Robin Gourmet Cheeseburger is RRs original burger with crisp lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onion, mayo and Red’s pickle relish and your choice of: Cheddar, American, Swiss, Monterey Jack, Bleu, Provolone, or Pepper Jack Cheese. On the first bite, you right away taste the relish and the meaty tang of the patty that fulfills your taste buds.

All gourmet burgers are served with their world famous steak fries. Not to mention they are bottomless, meaning you may order as many rounds as you like for free! It never ends!

Their Whiskey River Bbq Burger is one of their signature selections with their Whiskey River bbq sauce, wrapped together with cheddar cheese, crisp onion straws, lettuce, tomato and mayo making it a one of a kind filling, yet cant stop eating, burger. The special sauce drips from the burger as you are trying to figure out how to take the first bite. The two things that make the burger are the sauce and the onions.

Not much of a meat person? No worries, they have a Whiskey River Bbq Chicken Wrap with a spinach tortilla, juicy chicken breast dripping in their sauce along with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tortilla strips and a nip of ranch dressing served with melon and bottomless fries.

Not only does Red Robin serve tasty burgers and wraps, they also serve fresh salads like their unique Apple Harvest Chicken Salad with grilled chicken, diced apples, candied walnuts and goat cheese. It’s topped with sliced apples and Dijon vinaigrette. The apples and the chicken go well together and are not so filling so you can order dessert.

Their famous Mountain High Mudd Pie is a creation of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie bits, chopped peanuts, fudge and peanut butter in a chocolate cookie crust. The creation is served in a pool of hot fudge and caramel sauce. This dessert is a filling delicious finisher for the day.

Red Robin doesn’t only have bottomless fries but some of their specialty drinks are bottomless too! Their Freckled Lemonade, their Very Berry Raspberry Limeade, and Blue Berry Pomegranate Limeade, just to name a few that are refillable.

After eating at RR, you leave with a full stomach and a thought on what you will order next time around. The staff is friendly and don’t mind changing things around for you. If you are not satisfied they will do their best to make sure you enjoy your visit.

The price ranges start at $9.00-$12.00 for meals and drinks at $4.00-$8.00.
