The Mesa Olympians softball team ends their season with a winning record of 23-15 and many memorable moments throughout the season.
Of course every win throughout the course of a season is memorable but when asked which one stood out the most, Coach Jaclyn Guidi said, “When we beat Long Beach 3-1 in 9 innings. We went to an international tie breaker in the 8th and 9th and won while visiting at Long Beach. Also 14 players played in the game!” She made a point to add that the game was a “Team Win!”
The Mesa Olympians had 10 sophomores on the team who contributed throughout the season. One standout sophomore was, Olympians shortstop and leadoff hitter, Sarah Pullman. Pullman has filled the shortstop position the past two seasons and will certainly be missed next year. Another standout sophomore who will be moving on next year is Anik Ribera. Ribera was the team’s designated player and pitcher. She was able to lead the team in RBI’s as well as perform at a high level on the mound as a pitcher. Ribera received a softball scholarship to St. Katherine’s College where she will continue to play while furthering her studies in environmental science.
Overall the team would have liked to have more success, however this season will not be thought of as a failure by any means, finishing third in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. The girls on the team were able to grow closer to their teammates as well as create moments that will never be forgotten. The younger players on the team will look to build on this 23-win season and get stronger next year.
