San Diego’s Slightly Stoopid is soaring on their sixth studio album titled, “Chronchitis,” produced by Mario C. The album was released in stores on August 7. It consists of influenced reggae, up-beat funk and rock. The chill new album includes special appearances from Money Mark, Gangstarr’s Guru and Angelo Moore of Fishbone. The band managed to keep their style on some laid-back island jams (“Ever Really Wanted”), funky-fresh beats (“Mind On Your Music”), and acoustic guitar melodies (“Girl U So Fine”). The 17 songs on “Chronchitis” exude mellow, down to earth reggae. The album sold 12,000 copies the first week, hitting the No. 55 slot on The Billboard 200.
“Chronchitis” contains sounds that are new to their genre of music. Rather than solo acoustic melodies, Slightly Stoopid has added various melodic beats that consist of a more technical and harmonic rhythm. “Breakbeat (featuring DJ Hell Naw)” for example, shows a more techno style of reggae.
The band is currently kicking off the Summer Haze Tour, featuring G. Love, Special Sauce and Ozomatli. Ticket sales did extremely well, selling 4,000 to 8,500 seats around the globe, according to press releases. The band is expected to perform at the Street Scene 2007 on Sept. 22-Sept.23 at the Coors Amphitheater to promote their new album.
